History

Lake Basin College is a faith-based middle level College and Training Institution established in 2015 to offer diverse and relevant programs. It is sponsored by Lake Basin Region Centre for Theology. The main campus is located in Nyakach sub- County, Kisumu County. In addition to the main campus, the College also has a training site on Agriculture and Environment within the same locality at Katuk Odeyo- the area that has experienced devastating environmental degradation.
The Lake Basin region faces a number of social, environmental and health challenges ranging from environmental degradation due to lack of adequate afforestation program; to pollution particularly of the largest water resource base around Lake Victoria; cattle rustling and poor food security among others. These challenges have adversely affected the livelihood of the people creating poor living conditions as a result of inadequate supply of basic needs of life.
The establishment of the Institution was necessitated by the need to address the social, environmental and health concerns facing the region. The institution, therefore, seeks to bridge the gap by providing all round training useful in mitigating the challenges with the aim of innovative transformation of the region and improving the status of available natural and environmental resources graciously given to us by God and putting them into better use to promote the quality of life of the people in the Lake region and beyond.
